Release Date : 12/3/2016

VALLEY FORGE, PA – The Atlantic Youth Hockey League and the Valley Forge Minutemen are pleased to announce that 18U forward Hunter Canestra (Gilbertsville, PA) has signed a North American Hockey League tender with the Northeast Generals for the 2017-18 season.

A member of the AYHL since his Squirt Minor season, Canestra returned to the Minutemen for his Midget 18 season and parlayed his time with the program into an opportunity to play Tier II juniors.

“I would like to thank the Valley Forge Minutemen for their support,” he said. “They have helped me to maintain confidence and [develop] the skill set needed to obtain the tender from the Generals.”

“Hunter is a skilled player,” said head coach Sean Cannon. “In my mind, he is just coming into his own [as a player]. His ability makes players around him better. We are fortunate to have Hunter with us this season and we wish him the best in the future, [both for his remaining time with] our club and with the Generals.”

The 1999-born forward was a 10th round selection of the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the 2015 United States Hockey League Phase I Draft and the Niagara iceDogs also chose Canestra in the 11th round of the 2015 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.
