2017 Atlantic District Championships Set

Release Date : 03/13/2017

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The New Jersey Devils Youth (14U), the New Jersey Junior Titans (16U), and the Philadelphia Junior Flyers (18U) advanced out of the qualifying round of the 2017 Atlantic District Playoffs, while the Valley Forge Minutemen (12U) were declared Atlantic District champions.

The teams advancing out of the qualifying round will meet the New Jersey Colonials (14U) and the North Jersey Avalanche (16U, 18U) for the Atlantic District championships at Ice Line Quad Rinks (Mar. 18-20). The winners of the Atlantic District crowns will represent the Atlantic Youth Hockey League and the Atlantic District at the Tier I/USA Hockey National Championships.

Additionally, the Jersey Hitmen advanced out of the Atlantic District qualifying round. They will meet the Avalanche in the 15 Pure Championship.

At 12U, the Minutemen, who earned the Atlantic Youth Hockey League’s postseason crown and finished in first place in the district standings, earned the district championship after going undefeated in pool play to reach the championship final, where Valley Forge downed the New Jersey Rockets 6-0.

At Bantam Major, the Devils Youth, who finished in second place in both the league and district standings, punched their ticket to the district championships by sweeping pool play, including a 3-2 overtime victory over the Avalanche in the final pool play game. The Devils Youth will face their in-state rival, the New Jersey Colonials, who finished the AYHL season a perfect 22-0 (including 15-0 in district play) for the district title.

At 16U National Premier, the Titans earned their way back to the district championship after sweeping through pool play, only allowing a single goal. The Titans earned a rematch with the Avalanche, who upended the “red buckets” 5-2 in the AYHL final.

At 18U, the Junior Flyers advanced out of pool play by virtue of a third tiebreaker after the Flyers, the Hitmen, and Virtua Hockey finished tied with a 2-1-0 record, with all victories coming in regulation. The Junior Flyers earned a rematch with the number-one ranked Avalanche.
