AYHL announces key 2017-18 dates

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – The Atlantic Youth Hockey League (AYHL) released a list of key dates and events for the 2017-18 season.

The unofficial start to the season is the annual managers meeting. This season, three meetings will be held as follows:

  • August 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ice Works in Aston, Pennsylvania.
  • August 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ice House in Hackensack, New Jersey
  • August 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mennen Arena in Morristown, New Jersey

Every AYHL manager must attend a meeting of their choosing, however, league coaches are not required to attend.

As teams begin league play with opening weekend September 9-10, the first event of the year will take place later in the opening month, when the league’s premier divisions: 15 Pure, 16U National Premier, 16U National Elite and 18U Premier head to Oaks Center Ice (Oaks, Pa.) for the AYHL Fall Classic. The three-day event will feature 39 games across the four divisions featuring some of the best talent on the East Coast.

Teams will continue with league play until Saturday, February 3 when the league’s annual All-Star Saturday will again return to the TD Bank Sports Center on the campus of Quinnipiac University. Matchups featuring the best players the AYHL has to offer in the 15 Pure, 16U National Premier and Elite, and 18U Premier are scheduled with times to be announced.

Just three weeks of games follow All-Star Saturday before the entire league descends on Pennsylvania for the 2018 AYHL Playoffs. Games will be played at Ice Line (West Chester, Pa.) and Oaks Center Ice (Oaks, Pa.) beginning Saturday, March 3. Seedings and game times to be determined.

After the AYHL Champions are crowned, teams in the Atlantic District will look to represent the district at nationals. The qualifying weekend will be March 9-11 in the 12U, 14U, 15 Pure, 16U and 18U divisions. Locations and times to be announced. One week later, the district champions will be crowned with venue and times to be announced.

The 2018 USA Hockey Tier I Nationals will be held April 5-9. The Bantam Majors will compete at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, North Carolina; 15 Pure will crown their champion at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan and the Philadelphia Junior Flyers will host the 16 and 18U championships at the Ice Line in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

The Atlantic Youth Hockey League is the USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier I AAA youth hockey league of the Atlantic District. From Connecticut to Maryland, the AYHL’s membership is comprised of over 100 teams, representing four districts, and is spread across six playing divisions. The AYHL’s mission is to develop young players with competition, fun, and good sportsmanship, and move them on to the next phase of their hockey career. With a distinguished alumni list of players that spent a portion of their playing career in the AYHL, today’s players choose to play in the AYHL knowing that it is a proven stepping stone for those serious in their hockey pursuits.
