AYHL alumnus inks deal with OHL's Saginaw Spirit

SAGINAW, Mich. (December 2, 2017) – The Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League announced Friday the signing of Atlantic Youth Hockey League (AYHL) alumnus Jake Goldowski to a Standard Player Agreement and Education Package. The Spirit selected the Thornhurst, Pennsylvania native in the 4th round of the 2016 OHL Priority Selection.

Eligible for the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Goldowksi was most recently with the United States National Team Development Program, where the center recorded one assist in five United States Hockey League contests and two assists in non-USHL competition with Team USA.

Goldowski spent his entire youth hockey career with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights, skating in the AYHL from 2010 through 2016. He played in 53 games with the Knights at Midget 16U, collecting 29 goals and 33 assists. Originally committed to Penn State University for the 2018-19 season, Goldowski caught Saginaw’s eye in the 2016 OHL Cup, where he had a two goals and two assists in his second year competing in the prestigious event.

In his first season with the US NTDP, Goldowski had 16 goals and 10 assists with 30 penalty minutes in 89 games. He becomes the fifth player from Pennsylvania in Spirits history.

The Atlantic Youth Hockey League is the USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier I AAA youth hockey league of the Atlantic District. From Connecticut to Maryland, the AYHL’s membership is comprised of over 100 teams, representing four districts, and is spread across six playing divisions. The AYHL’s mission is to develop young players with competition, fun, and good sportsmanship, and move them on to the next phase of their hockey career. With a distinguished alumni list of players that spent a portion of their playing career in the AYHL, today’s players choose to play in the AYHL knowing that it is a proven stepping stone for those serious in their hockey pursuits.
