Two AYHL Alumni Named All-Americans

Release Date : 04/11/2015

GLOUCESTER, MASS. – The American Hockey Coaches Association announced their 2014-15 AHCA/CCM Hockey Men’s Division I All-American teams and the first, and second, teams each contained an AYHL alumnus.

Yale University defenseman Rob O’Gara (Nesconset, N.Y./Boston Bruins) was named to the First Team (East) and Quinnipiac University forward Sam Anas (Potomac, Md.) was named to the Second Team (East).

An alumnus of the Long Island Royals program, O’Gara is the first Yale defenseman to be named an All-American since 1998. O’Gara, the ECAC’s top defensive defenseman, was Yale’s second leading scorer and was also a first team all-ECAC selection. O’Gara led Yale in plus/minus and had the team’s longest point streak of the season (7).

As a junior, O’Gara turned in a dominating performance on the blueline, helping Yale lead the nation in scoring defense, earning O’Gara a spot on the All-Ivy League First Team and a first-team All-New England Division I Men’s Hockey selection.

An alumnus of both Team Maryland and the Washington Little Capitals programs, Anas was eighth nationally in goals (23) and was one of 26 players to score 20 or more goals this season. Anas ranked 33rd nationally with 39 points, which was also good for fifth in the ECAC. Anas led the ECAC in power play goals (9) and shots on goal (161). Anas is the third player in program history to receive All-American honors.

In addition to his All-American recognition, Anas was named to the 2014-15 New England Division I Men’s Hockey All-Star Team and was also an All-ECAC Hockey Second Team honoree.

The All-American selections were the first for both O’Gara and Anas.

The ACHA has selected All-America teams since 1958.
