Atlantic Youth Hockey League

Pittston, PA got a nice surprise this off season with a visit from NHL Defenseman Ivan Provorov. Provorov, of the Philadelphia Flyer, came back to his roots to skate with his long-time skating coach Alex Vasko at Revolution Ice Centre. Provorov was one of several high profile RFA’s (restricted free agents) that remained unsigned, with only days to go before training camp. The Flyers signed Provorov to a six-year, $40.5 million contract while he was training with coach Vasko. Provorov’s contract carries a $6.75 million annual average salary. One of the highest paid defenseman in the NHL.

Provorov, a Russian native, played in Pittston, PA for the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights for five years before moving on to juniors. When he was 14, he moved to northeastern, Pennsylvania to skate with Coach Alex Vasko, the hockey director of the Wilkes Barre Scranton Junior Knights. During Provorov’s time with Vasko and the Knights, they competed for a National title and in 2012 won National Championship with his Bantam Major AAA Team.

Congratulations to Ivan and the accomplishments he has made so far in his career, keep making the AYHL proud!
