PITTSTON, Pa. – This weekend marks an important juncture in the season where teams are battling early for positioning and momentum. After opening matchups laid the foundation, eyes will be on the teams that have come out strong and are fighting to hold that edge.
The 12U Major division has quickly taken shape with Philadelphia Hockey Club setting the pace at the top spot, but the real battle right now is for second place. The Long Island Royals and Philadelphia Jr. Flyers are both on the hunt, trading strong performances as they look to separate themselves from the pack. With plenty of hockey still to play, this weekend could be pivotal in setting the pace for the months ahead.
Meanwhile in the 16U Premier division, all eyes will be on the North Jersey Avalanche as they hit the ice for the first time this season. The Avalanche were dominant last year, finishing atop the division with an undefeated 13–0 record. They’ll open their 2025–2026 campaign on Sunday in Pittston, Pa., against the WB/Scranton Jr. Knights, a matchup that could set the tone for another strong run.
From top-tier programs taking the ice for the first time to early-season battles for positioning, this weekend promises plenty of energy and action across the AYHL.
