PITTSTON, Pa. – The final weekend of the AYHL regular season arrives with postseason spots still up for grabs, as several Premier divisions head into decisive matchups that will determine who moves on to the playoffs.
In the 16U Premier division, only the top two teams will advance, and the race remains tight behind first-place North Jersey Avalanche. The Avalanche enter the weekend at 10-1, having allowed just 17 goals all season, and have already positioned themselves firmly in the playoff picture. The battle behind them, however, is far from settled.
Philadelphia Junior Flyers and WB/Scranton Jr. Knights are tied with 16 points, setting up a critical weekend for the Jr. Knights, who have two chances to make a playoff push. The Jr. Knights will face the New Jersey Jr. Titans on Saturday evening before returning to the ice Sunday afternoon against the Danbury Hat Tricks Elite at Revolution Ice Centre. With strong defensive numbers and momentum on their side, the Jr. Knights know that every shift matters as they chase a postseason berth.
The 13O Premier division features an equally compelling stretch run, with four teams set to qualify for the playoffs and several tightly packed in the standings. New Jersey Colonials and Philadelphia Hockey Club have separated slightly at the top, but the race for the remaining spots remains wide open.
Philadelphia Junior Flyers sit just outside the top four and will have two head-to-head opportunities this weekend against the Long Island Gulls at home in Ice Line. The teams will meet Saturday afternoon before closing the regular season with a Sunday rematch. With points at a premium, the series carries major playoff implications.
As the regular season comes to a close, the margin for error has disappeared. With playoff spots on the line across multiple divisions, the final weekend promises urgency, intensity and a fitting conclusion to the road to postseason play.
