Washington Little Capitals to field 10U AAA team for 2026–2027 season

LORTON, Va. – The Washington Little Capitals will expand their organization next season with the addition of a 10U AAA team, marking a new milestone in the club’s development pathway and strengthening the competitive landscape within the Atlantic Youth Hockey League.

The Little Caps, a Tier I youth hockey organization with more than four decades of history, have been a consistent presence in the AYHL at multiple age levels. Their commitment to facing top-tier competition has made them a strong contributor to the league’s overall standard of play.

The addition of a 10U AAA squad represents a significant opportunity for younger players to access Tier I competition earlier in their development. Historically, the Potomac Valley Amateur Hockey Association (PVAHA), which governs youth hockey in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia area, had not sanctioned additional Tier I teams at the youngest levels, limiting AAA opportunities for players in that age bracket.

By establishing a 10U AAA team, the Little Caps aim to create a stronger and more cohesive progression for athletes as they move through the organization’s Tier I ranks. For the AYHL, that earlier exposure to structured Tier I competition means players entering older divisions will arrive more prepared, further elevating the pace, depth and quality of league play.

The Washington Little Caps compete in the AYHL at various age groups in pursuit of high-caliber competition. Their participation has provided valuable matchups for member organizations across the league, and the addition of 10U AAA strengthens that pipeline from the ground up. As development opportunities expand at the youngest Tier I level, the competitive benefits extend league-wide.
