HACKENSACK, N.J. – Two teams have taken a stride ahead of the group in the 14U Major Premier division, with important games this weekend that could define their seasons. The North Jersey Avalanche are currently in first and the Philadelphia Junior Flyers are in second, ranked by points.
On Saturday afternoon, the Avalanche face off against WB/Scranton Junior Knights who are in third and the Jr. Flyers take the ice against Philadelphia Hockey Club who is in fourth. The outcome of these two games could shake up the standings, with the Jr. Flyers holding onto a slight advantage by win percentage across fewer games.
The Avalanche will be relying on Christopher Pinko who has accumulated 44 points across the season so far and is the top ranked forward. But the defense will have a tough battle with Arten Glukhikh and Pierson Kao from the Jr. Knights who have 36 and 35 points, respectively.
The Jr. Flyers have a trio of forwards, Ty McGroarty, Brayden Kotzen, and Erik Zahradnik, who have been keeping them at the top of the division. Those forwards have been supported by Colin MacCormack and Chase Schulberger on defense. The Jr. Flyers defense will need to keep forward CJ Mistichelli from Philadelphia Hockey Club at bay.
The Avalanche and Jr. Knights take the ice at 3:15 p.m. in Hackensack, and the Jr. Flyers and PHC take the ice at 4 p.m. in West Chester.
